I suppose you could say I've set this Tab aside for awhile (the fate of too many of my knitting projects, I'm afraid). Now that the busy-ness of the holidays is waning for me and the weather is frigid where I live, I'm in the mood for all things woolen again.

It's time to get back to my Learn-to-Knit afghan. I believe it's a fairly well-known book/project. The book is by Barbara Walker. The early squares are easy to make and provide enough interest and beauty to give a sense of accomplishment.

I chose decent quality wool to make the afghan. I find real wool easier to knit with, and I wanted something soft to the touch. I've played around with Peace Fleece wool in the past. It's beautiful to look at and would make a great sweater or vest to be worn over a turtleneck, but it doesn't have the softness I wanted for my afghan.

What kinds of projects are you working on now or stood out as successes at the beginning of your knitting adventure? Do you have any good value wools you recommend? How about man-made yarns that have a good tension that resembles the feel of knitting with real wool?
