Apple's Siri says the Nokia Lumia 900 is the best smartphone ever
This is a pretty funny bit of info about Siri. The Nokia Lumia 900 as the best Smart Phone was the answer given by Siri last week, seems Siri is having second thoughts this week and now is giving a more iPhone friendly answer. :-)

If Netflix has their way they will share your video rental list
Netflix would like to overturn the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) so they can freely share what you've rented to everyone on Facebook. We are quickly getting to the point were Google and Facebook have way too much information gathered on us without our knowledge.

Google has lost it's way post IPO
As the author of this post points out, Google spread it's self thin and lost its focus on it's primary product post IPO. It will be very interesting to see if Facebook looses it's focus post IPO as well.

Yahoo Lays 14% of it's work force
Seems unusual that they would do such a large layoff without at least an outline of future company strategy. I would image the remaining employees are going to be searching for new jobs without some clearly defined direction for the company.

RIM – Dead and Buried - It Needs to Find a Buyer
URL link I am too exhausted talking about RIM. The incompetent and unrepentant leadership and Board of Directors have left me with no compassion for RIMs plight. I love the Blackberry device; it is functional and darn tough. However, I am not representative of that burgeoning market all handset makers are going after. Worse still, the corporate market is now lost to RIM. Despite the fact that RIM still has cash, that cash cannot buy the loyalty and attention of the best and brightest apps developers. The apps community is just not interested in the Blackberry. RIM does not own the wirele...

Sprint – Brought Back from the Brink – Questions Still Loom - Bankruptcy in the Future? - Comments
URL link I have been a supporter of Dan Hesse since he took over as CEO of Sprint. He has done a brilliant job. Now word has leaked that Sprints Board of Directors are watching Hesse closely and that some of the board have voiced concern over Dan Hesses ability to take the company the next step. Under normal turnaround circumstances, I would agree with the board. The problem is that there is not a soul who could do any better. Hesse had to publicly fight the AT&T/T-Mobile merger. People need to keep in mind that Sprint is a publicly traded company. If Hesse had not waged a regulatory war...

How Yahoo Weaponized This Person’s Work
URL link I can understand how the inventor feels. Even though this persons patent is not part of the current patent infringement suit that was filed by Yahoo against Facebook, former Yahoo employee (I think he was an employee)and inventor, Andy Baio has taken offense at Yahoos actions. Mr. Baio refers to the current patent infringement lawsuit filed by Yahoo against Facebook as weaponizing the patent portfolio. He said it is against the hacker ethic. First, I put all hackers right up there along with the common hood and thief; numerous hackers have stolen peoples confidential information i...

China set to become world's largest smartphone market in 2012
"China is set to become the world’s largest smartphone market in 2012 while Brazil and India are forecast to enter the top five markets by 2016, according to research firm IDC."

NO KIDDING. Where has IDC been for the last 7 years. China is the world's largest market PERIOD. As for Brazil and India - same thing - NO KIDDING.

This is old news.

Cisco –Charging Ahead into Video
URL link Cisco has just made a $4B purchase if a video company called NDS. NDS is a video technology company that services cable TV, satellite, and broadband pay-TV operators. NDS is also very active in those emerging markets where the conversion from analog to digital is occurring. Now on the surface it sounds as if the Cisco acquisition might not be a sound idea because of a push to move all video viewing onto the Internet. Think connecting the television directly to the Internet. Frankly, I think any significant move away from traditional cable to the Internet is a few years away; abo...

Google tried to re-invent it's self and is failing at it.
Like Yahoo, Google is searching for it's place in the new world of social. Google has tried to force Social in to search with Google+ and it does not seem to be working out so well for them. Google's success was based on good content (search results you wanted), but this is changing.

"Google was the rich kid who, after having discovered he wasn’t invited to the party, built his own party in retaliation. The fact that no one came to Google’s party became the elephant in the room."

Yahoo Sues Facebook – Good - Give Thompson until the end of 2012 Before Declaring Yahoo Dead or Alive - COMMENTS
URL link I hate patent suits they can get messy and sometimes they are just complete BULL. Then again there are times I believe that parties need to file against one another because I hate patent infringement. I believe that everyone is entitled to proper compensation for intellectual property. That all being said. I also like the aggressive management tactic that Scott Thompson is using to run his company, Yahoo. I also applaud the timing of Yahoos lawsuit against Facebook. As a rule, companies that are filing for an IPO dont need bad news like a major patent infringement lawsuit. The l...

WiMAX – I Have Not Given Up On It - Update - COMMENTS
URL link Some folks may consider me a sentimental softee who just cannot give up on WiMAX. You would be half right; I am sentimental but if I thought there was no future for WiMAX I would say so. APAC countries are like any block of nations, you go with what is popular. However, I would be surprised if APAC totally abandoned WiMAX. I still believe that WiMAX can fill a niche market role for backhaul, campus site voice and data, CCTV replacement (surveillance), and even fill a primary role as voice for emerging countries. My suggestion to APAC nations is deploy LTE for large serving ar...

Yahoo’s Chief Executive Scott Thompson – Restructuring, Finally!! - Comments
URL link I love it. This is what has to be done. Forget about giving Wall Street a measure of confidence. Thompsons actions are right on the mark. He is making aggressive and substantive changes; and the changes appear to be relevant. I use to believe in using ones patent portfolio in a defensive fashion; what can I say I was old fashion and I was looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. However, after 30 plus years I can tell you that taking an offensive position using ones patent portfolio is the smart thing to do. You need to look at the technology world in one way: Footb...
