Stupid companies to watch - Netflix
"Consumers value the simplicity Netflix has always offered and we respect that," Hastings said on October 10. "There is a difference between moving quickly -- which Netflix has done very well for years -- and moving too fast, which is what we did in this case."

CEO Read Hasting still does not seem to get it. He thinks that losing 800,000 U.S. subscribers was due to the fact that they just didn't understand the changes. They understood the changes, that's why they left. Hasting has managed to really tarnish the Netflix brand - time for the board to start a new CEO search. Better now before it's too late ...

Read Hasting needs to read the new Steve Jobs Bio ...

****
When describing his period of exile from Apple — when John Sculley took over — Steve Jobs described one fundamental root cause of Apple's problems. That was to let profitability outweigh passion: "My passion has been to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products. The products, not the profits, were the motivation. Sculley flipped these priorities to where the goal was to make money. It's a subtle difference, but it ends up meaning everything."

Netflix has made this mistake. They originally were focused on providing a service, solving a problem and had a passion for what they did. They have just fallen over the cliff in pursuit of profit, not great product.
