Sprint is facing a significant cash shortfall in 2012 on the order of $2.2 Billion and $5.2 Billion in 2013.  The reason for the cash shortfall is mostly because of the network upgrade.  Is this a good situation?  No.  Is this situation one that Sprint cannot work itself out of?  No.

Frankly, I like the transparency.  Some of the nonsense that carriers like AT&T has spewed out like the first iPhone was 3G when it really was not.  Unfortunately, the mainstream media and Wall Street loves misleading the public for the sake of hype.

I would love to see the details of the debt refinancing and vendor financing agreements.  Vendor financing in telecom is not new.  Debt refinancing is not new either.  However, the devil is in the details.

Sprint will need to perfectly choreograph the network implementation plan with the sales plan and the financing plan.  Building and running a network requires a fiscally smart CTO, VP Network Operations, VP Sales, VP Marketing, and CFO.

This will require perfect timing and no mistakes.
