RIM’s efforts to save the company are pretty lame. Basically, RIM is attempting to make it RIM’s operating platform easier to manage other devices. It looks like RIM’s attempt to curry favor with a company’s IT department. Where in the world will that lead to?
True, RIM’s service business makes cash but it will not be making any money if users continue the mad dash to Android and iPhone. The reality is that IT departments are guided by the demands of their users. Now do the users care about the management platform used by the IT department? The answer is NO.
However, RIM is making a last ditch effort to stay in the game. The company should have pushed harder into the services business 2 years ago. There is competition in the services field now and from companies that are better financed and sell a lot more handsets than RIM. Now unless the company has an executable tactical plan and strategic plan to delve deeper into the services sector, then this attempt is nothing more than bandage and not a surgical fix.
