As readers will have seen from my recent exchanges with GDT, I believe the future of FLO TV lies in customized entertainment and interactive media.
We already see an emerging marketplace that involves customized service profiles for telecom users. These service profiles involve voice services and Internet-based services. Ten years ago we were looking at the emerging wireless Internet space. Five years ago we were looking at the emerging wireless media space. Today we are looking at the emerging converged media and telecommunications space. This converged media and telecom space involves personalized entertainment that operates in an interactive environment.
FLO TV has the opportunity to resurrect an old idea – “wireless TV”. Back in 2000 and as recently as 2005, many Wall Street types gave the whole concept of wireless TV a big thumbs down. Guess what they are wrong. Today entertainment is being broadcast over the handset and over the landline Internet. Wireless carriers are using smart handsets to bring wireless entertainment to the masses. Media revenue models are still evolving for the wireless market but the momentum is there.
I can see FLO TV not only providing interactive entertainment but also telecommunications. Think chat rooms, game rooms, and simple conversation.
