In a definite bow to FCC pressure, Google does the right thing; sort of – Google limits the number of telephone numbers it is blocking.
I hate beating up on carriers. I understand the need to fight for a particular policy position. However, when something is so blatantly obvious; please stop wasting everyone’s time and do the right thing.
Okay that is definitely a pollyanna point of view but sometimes it is nice to be naïve.
However, the real issue for Google and other carrier wannabees is not about blocking; it is about mutual compensation. You may know it by reciprocal compensation.
Yes, mutual compensation. It has been about mutual compensation since the late1980s, early 1990s. Not a darn thing has changed has changed in all these years. We are still arguing the same issue – money.
Guess what - if you are not bound by the rules of a the commn carrier then you don't have to deal with mutual compensation issues - you get to terminate calls in someone else's network for free.
Google needs to understand that even if it gets away with this charade for now; eventually the responsibilities of being a carrier will catch up with it.
