Let’s face it most analysts want to know: Will the Android platform outsell Apple’s iPhone?
Will Android outsell Apple’s mobile operating system (aka iPhone)? The answer is unless the Android platform self implodes, it probably will. Then again the numbers will mean nothing.
Folks forget that Apple is the only manufacturer in the telecom/infocom space that has its own built-in fan base. Its like Star Trek or Star Wars; does not matter if you get new viewers the sheer numbers of existing fans of the two space movie/TV franchises are so large you will still make money even if you don’t add new fans. That is Apple in a nutshell.
I believe that Android will eventually outsell the iPhone because frankly it is a numbers and territory game. I cannot see most cell phone vendors going down the path of Microsoft; that is like handing over the keys to the kingdom to the 800 pound gorilla. I cannot see anyone cooperating with Apple either; not that Apple will cooperate with anyone else. The same can be said of Symbian and RIM.
Why do I believe Android can outsell Apple and the rest of them? Simple; it is supposed to be an open platform. If you assume the trend in the industry is towards open platforms then the answer has to be Yes. If you believe the hype of “open architecture” than yes it should be a winner. Then again I may have a Pollyanna view of the world.
