I found this interesting article about 4G.  Initially I thought the article was a fluff piece.  However, I thought about it further and I agree with the author.

The key thing to keep in mind about technology expenditures of this nature is that spending without an immediate commercial outlet does not result in jobs or any kind of economic growth.  It would be equivalent to flushing cash down a toilet.

If this article had been written 4 years ago (2007) I would have said a vendor had written the article because 4 years ago the content sector had not come together yet with a business model that made sense for it.

Capital and operational expenditures on 4G makes sense now and can be commercialized now because the consumer marketplace is ready to use all products and services that can be generated as a result of 4G technology use.

Spending money on technology in the hopes of it spurring economic growth will not result in an economic benefit.  Spending money on technology that can be immediately commercialized creates jobs in the technology creation sector, manufacturing sector, and service provisioning sector.

We are now at a point in the 4G process where we are now at the point of commercialization in an environment where there is a demand for 4G.

Get it?  Supply and demand.  There is a demand and fortunately the supply is coming online.
