Ability to direct discussion to a particular member
My members have been asking me if while we communicate and collaborate together, sometimes there are certain thoughts and questions only meant for a limited number of members - so could there be a way to limit communication and collaboration to sub-team members within a group's tab?

Thanks!

The Wall
tabUp does not currently have a way to limit communications to just a few group members. We've been think about different ways to add this kind of feature - either a sub-group within a tab or a tabUp messaging systems. Not sure which would work better, do you have a preference?

Thank you for your continued great customer service response!

As far as my thoughts on either sub-groups or a messaging system, hmm...

Initially, my thoughts include that sub-groups bring to mind more like committees or teams of people working together on projects needing to communicate or collaborate with each other; being three or more people - however, I could also see some two people sub-groups, as well.

While messaging system brings to mind simply IM-ing within Tabs, therefore anyone can IM with anyone else and the conversation gets emailed to the two participants once the conversation ends, as record of it, so it remains private and not posted to the Tab (and maybe an optional feature). However with IM-ing, the other participant would also need to be online at the same time - unlike with direct inner-tab private one-to-one emails where the other person receives the correspondence the next time they log-in, and can be notified of the inner-tab email by their personal email , if that feature is selected by them.

These are my initial thoughts. Of course, any possibility could be tweaked to work privately between two people without having to be online at the same time, if you designed it to be. I have no doubts that you guys will do a great job with whatever you finalize! I look forward to the new feature coming out! I will stay posted for it!

Thank you for listening!

Enjoy your weekend!

That's great news to hear you are looking into it as I was looking at how to create a sub group without having to create a new tab. We have 20 members at the moment and will be splitting off into smaller groups so not everyone need to hear our chat.

What we are thinking of doing is allowing the group (tab) organizer to create a TalkAbout category for a subset of the group. Only members added to this category will see and be part of the discussions created in this category. Since the members are already part of the group no "invite" will be needed for the organizer to create and add them to the sub-group category.

Does this proposed feature solve the problem? All other tab content will be for the whole group (i.e. pictures, calendar events), but the sub-group category will allow discussions to occur between a subset of the group.

Yes that sounds about right. I can see how well that would help us organise things and is a great added feature to Tabup

Do let me know when it might be ready. We are about to split the group into sub-groups and I'd rather not start a new tab
Thanks.
BTW - all the members think TABUP is great. I'm spreading the word on Facebook and have done a review on my blog. plus started to do some training videos on how to use tabup. Do you have any?

We are currently working on cleaning up the calendar interface and adding a year view of events. Hope to have this completed next week. I'll review the schedule with the developers to see about the category based subgrouping - this is a security / permission based change, so not sure how hard it will be to do yet. Other features in our list of things to complete:

1) Ability to archive a tab (make read-only).

2) Expand the ToDo App, adding other list options and making full page feature.

3) Adding an ads free option for a tab.

4) Dues / fees collection for a group.

5) Other?

We really appreciate that you are spreading the word. We have a Fan page on facebook (tabUp) and a twitter page as well (tabUp). We would love to see the training video you've put together, feel free to share the link in the feedback tab. I guess we need to add training video to our list :-)
